'In Classical Greek mythology, Pandora was the first human woman created by the deities on the instructions of Zeus.
Each of the deities helped create her by giving her unique gifts.
Pandora was given a large jar and instructed by Zeus to keep it closed. However she had also been given the gift of curiosity, and so ultimately opened it.
When she removed the lid, all of the evils, ills and diseases, that mankind had not known previously, escaped from the jar, but it is said, that at the very bottom of her jar, there lay hope.'

Kerry Darlington is a Welsh artist, born 1974 in Rhyl, North Wales. She was heavily inspired by magical fairy tale picture books and stories during her childhood, and had a particular love for Arthur Rackham's intricate pen and ink work. This influenced her to take a degree in Illustration, with intentions of becoming a children's book Illustrator. Following this she discovered ‘Art Nouveau’ and the Pre-Raphaelite artists’. She found this work so hauntingly beautiful that it absorbed her and it still has a profound effect on her own art.

For the last seven years Kerry has built a reputation for her original, decorative designs which became hugely popular, focusing primarily on trees and nature.
She recently took the decision to release her book Illustrations as Unique Edition prints - the ‘Midnight Garden’ sold out within a month and her ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ was so popular that it sold-out rapidly before obtaining high values on the secondary market. Her book illustration work is next to include ‘Peter Pan’ by J.M. Barrie and ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ by Enid Blyton.
In May 2012 she was awarded ‘Best-Selling Published Artist’ at a ceremony by the Fine Art Trade Guild.

On her original pieces, Kerry works with texture, acrylics and resin. She works in layers to build up depth and create more light. She uses resin as a medium rather than a varnish on the original paintings.
With her ‘Unique Editions’, whilst in essence they are prints, each one is some way unique. She creates small 3D additions which are hand-worked individually and adhered to the print. The background is also hand embellished, and all the work has resin hand-applied, making each print look like an original painting.

Born in Bristol in 1972, Doug became aware of his artistic talent at an early age.

Throughout his school and college education he concentrated on the technical side of drawing and painting, but after graduation he was in no doubt as to his chosen career, that of a professional artist.

Doug prefers to produce his distinctive artwork on a large scale, in order to achieve maximum impact with each piece. He also enjoys operating in plenty of space, thus allowing himself enough physical freedom to express the creative energy that is the key to his fresh, contemporary style.

His unorthodox use of pastels applied with fingers and thumbs or even the side of a hand or wrist allows him to create highly communicative and engaging images that make an immediate and lasting impression on the viewer.Inspired by his own emotional responses to life, Doug's intention is to provoke an emotional response in others; his success in this aim can be seen by the huge impact his newly released collection has made on the British art scene.

As one of the UKs most innovative and uplifting young artists, we look forward to his inevitable rise with great excitement!"I hope people can feel a connection with my work, and share the positive emotions behind it.

One of the keys to Doug's enduring success is that his appeal reaches such a wide audience. From culture loving aesthetes who spend their holidays browsing round the Louvre or the Uffizi to those who find the very thought of entering a gallery intimidating, his work crosses the whole spectrum and transcends cultural boundaries.
This rare quality of universality is perhaps due to the fact that Doug's compositions communicate with us so directly, referring to the human experience as a whole in a way that we can all recognise. Take "Monday, Wednesday, Friday" for instance. Who hasn't felt a little down in the mouth when the alarm goes off on a Monday morning, and who doesn't feel their heart lighten as Friday draws to a close? Doug's enchanting triptych brings the week to life for us in a way that everyone can relate to. Whether we are being presented with ideas about love, laughter, friendship, adventure or generosity, Doug's work always finds a way to reach out and touch us personally.

Pigs Might Fly - Doug Hyde

Doug Hyde - Pigs Might Fly

£315

Framed limited edition on paper of 295

image size 14" x 21"
 framed size 21" x 33"

Although the work is now sold all over the world I paint the same way as I did 10 years ago, imagining the room in the house where the picture will be hung and then producing it with the same excitement and love for the work that I hope the viewer will also experience.

Born in Bristol in 1972, Doug became aware of his artistic talent at an early age. Throughout his school and college education he concentrated on the technical side of drawing and painting, but after graduation he was in no doubt as to his chosen career, that of a professional artist.

He also enjoys operating in plenty of space, thus allowing himself enough physical freedom to express the creative energy that is the key to his fresh, contemporary style. His unorthodox use of pastels applied with fingers and thumbs or even the side of a hand or wrist allows him to create highly communicative and engaging images that make an immediate and lasting impression on the viewer.
Recently named as the UK's official best selling artist, Doug has been featured on television both on the BBC national news and on Channel 4 as well as on local television and local and national radio describing his unique technique and talking about the people and events that inspire his heart-warming images. Inspired by his own emotional responses to life, Doug's intention is to provoke a positive response in others; his success in this aim can be seen not only by the huge impact his work has made on the British and international art scene, but also by the money he has raised for two important charities – “Look Good…Feel Better” and Families for Children” - through the sale of his artwork. The extraordinary rise from virtual unknown to the most popular living artist in the UK has been meteoric, and his stunning original pastels have become genuine collectors' items.

“My figurative painting is a combination of pattern, nature, the colour of energy and an ephemeral, nostalgic subject matter. I cannot offer a more detailed explanation for these paintings, they have a title and they have a ‘feeling’. The feeling I give to the painting and that which the painting gives back to me as I paint it, can be its’ only explanation.”
