Doug Hyde at Smart Art Galleries

Doug Hyde - I Love, You Love, Me Love

£595

Limited framed edition on paper of 195

image size: 13" x 33"
 framed size: 22" x 44"

Doug prefers to produce his distinctive artwork on a large scale, in order to achieve maximum impact with each piece. He also enjoys operating in plenty of space, thus allowing himself enough physical freedom to express the creative energy that is the key to his fresh, contemporary style. His unorthodox use of pastels applied with fingers and thumbs or even the side of a hand or wrist allows him to create highly communicative and engaging images that make an immediate and lasting impression on the viewer.

.Doug Hyde - Pigs Might Fly

£395

Framed limited edition on paper of 295

image size 14" x 21"
 framed size 21" x 33"

Born in Bristol in 1972, Doug became aware of his artistic talent at an early age. Throughout his school and college education he concentrated on the technical side of drawing and painting, but after graduation he was in no doubt as to his chosen career, that of a professional artist.
Recently named as the UK's official best selling artist, Doug has been featured on television both on the BBC national news and on Channel 4 as well as on local television and local and national radio describing his unique technique and talking about the people and events that inspire his heart-warming images. Inspired by his own emotional responses to life, Doug's intention is to provoke a positive response in others; his success in this aim can be seen not only by the huge impact his work has made on the British and international art scene, but also by the money he has raised for two important charities – “Look Good…Feel Better” and Families for Children” - through the sale of his artwork. The extraordinary rise from virtual unknown to the most popular living artist in the UK has been meteoric, and his stunning original pastels have become genuine collectors' items.

Doug Hyde - King Of The Castle (sculpture)

£325

cold cast porcelain sculpture

limited edition of 350

The artwork of Doug Hyde has proved, in recent years, a force to be reckoned with. Having sell out tours not only in his UK homeland but also in Japan, Doug Hyde was named the most popular selling UK artist in 2005 by the Fine Art Trade Guild.

Despite being an International phenomenon, artist Doug Hyde’s feet have remained firmly on the ground; he has never lost touch with reality and leads a life steered towards the things that are most important to him, such as: love, family and a fantastic optimism for life.

These aspects to Doug’s life are translated so wonderfully into his art. His simplistic naive little characters, bring out the child, the romantic or the optimist in all of us.

Doug Hyde - Heart & Soul (open edition book)

£95

The collection ‘Heart and Soul’ represents everything that is best in the world of contemporary art. Uplifting and accessible, it is also technically accomplished and aesthetically rewarding, in other words, vintage Hyde. The highlight is the launch of his latest book, which lends its name to this landmark collection.

Doug’s highly communicative and engaging images make an immediate and lasting impression on the viewer. Doug has been featured on television both on the BBC news and on Channel 4 describing his unique technique and talking about the people and events that inspire his heart-warming images. His extraordinary rise from virtual unknown to fine art phenomenon has been meteoric, and his stunning Original Pastels have become genuine collectors' items. He was named as UK Artist of the Year in 2006 and was described by BBC Arts Correspondent David Sillito as the UK’s most popular living artist. Doug’s innovative style speaks directly to people’s emotions by summarising love, desires, wishes and dreams, and has turned him into a genuine artist of the people, for the people.

Congratulations are also due to Doug, whose international reputation continues to go from strength to strength. Doug last year completed a whirlwind tour of Japan where he spent two weeks making personal appearances, giving interviews and meeting collectors up and down the country. The trip was such a success he is returning later this year cementing his status as Japan’s favourite artistic import.

Lynne Wilkinson at Smart Art Galleries

Lynne Wilkinson was born and educated in Sheffield, studying for four years at the Faculty of Art and Design on Psalter Lane obtaining a B A Honours Degree in Painting and Printmaking. Followed by a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in Teaching at the Collegiate Crescent site. She has taught in various local schools and at the Sheffield Mappin and Graves Art Galleries.

Lynne Wilkinson now dedicatesher time to my painting,  and  exhibits in local shows, galleries, restaurants and shops, in both Sheffield and Derbyshire, winning various Competitions throughout the UK over the years.

Lynne Wilkinson is a member of Peak District Products a Derbyshire based group of professional fellow artists who sheshare shows, exhibitions, ideas and exchange of views.

Her studio is based at Summerley near Dronfield, this tranquil rural environment has provided her artistic stimulation and inspiration with the opportunity to study her subjects on a daily basis at close quarters.

Lynne Wilkinson works directly on the canvas, she does not sketch out a plan, her pictures evolve in a similar way to arranging a pile of furniture in a room, ultimately everything has it place. She says she makes mistakes along the way, and make adjustments, but this is all part of the process of how she paint.
Completing a picture gives  a real buzz, but parting with it can be difficult. But there's no greater compliment when somebody buys my work and takes it into their home.- Lynne Wilkinson

They have lots of tiny branches supporting a leafy canopy - hence the name."

Rolf Harris - Road To Paradise Valley

Road To Paradise Vally

£1225.00

Limited Edition Canvas on Board. Edition No. 135/195

I illustrated the side of a grand piano for DeMontfort Fine Art, with a long complex scene partly made up from my head, partly inspired by photos of country scenes from Northern New South Wales. These photographs showed a very green landscape, but I had in mind a parches, dry scene mainly composed of reds and oranges. When I had finished it, I really loved it so much that I immediately coated a long canvas with orange paint so I could have the pleasure again of painting a similar scene, but in a more right-angled oblong shape. As I eventually got around to working on it, the excitement of painting the scene on the piano was long months away, but as soon as I started, the thrill was there again. I hadn't realised that the piano was much longer than my canvas, and so couldn't duplicate the piano work of art. It was of necessity, shorter, but I think, exactly as much fun to paint. I don't think it would have worked as well had I made all the paddocks green instead of orangey-red.
